Young female white stork captured in playfull flight with her sister in nest in Malomirovo village Bulgaria. This nest is about 70 feet away from our house gate.
We have the pleasure of watching the babies stork grow up ready for their long flight after summer to tropical Africa for the winter.
Storks return to the same nest and the young hopefull return to make their nest in the same village area, so next me and my wife Andrea hope to see this on the return to 2010.
Stork breeds in open farmland and farm villages near to marshes and floodlands. The White Stork has a stronghold in Eastern Europe, declining in the NW (overhead cables and draining probably the main causes) nest often in small colonies in stick nest, readily accepts specially made and erected carriage wheels and platforms on house roofs, church towers, telephone poles. The stork has a slow dignified walk and can confused in flight with White Pelican, listing the the voice of the stork virtually silent but compensates for this by a loud bill clapping especially when partners meet at their nest.link Photo Cliff Norton B.A.(Hons)
